After wins over Guelph on Friday and Niagara on Saturday, the Sudbury Wolves looked to cap off a perfect weekend with a victory on the road against the Oshawa Generals on Sunday, but it was not to be.
Sudbury dropped the game, 4-2.
Once again, Wolves’ Head Coach Scott Barney went with Nate Krawchuk between the pipes while Jacob Oster was the starting goaltender for the hometown Oshawa Generals.
At the 3:58 mark of the opening period with Oshawa on the power play, Colby Barlow got the Generals off to the start they were looking for by scoring his ninth goal of the season to give Oshawa an early 1-0 lead.
With 9:54 remaining in the first, Luca Marrelli scored his 12th goal of the season, giving Oshawa a 2-lead.
At the 12:20 mark of the opening period, Sudbury was able to cut Oshawa’s lead in half with Quentin Musty’s eighth goal of the season to make the score 2-1 for the Generals.
With 4:01 left to play in the first 20 minutes of the hockey game, Owen Griffin scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Generals a 3-1 lead over the Wolves as both teams headed into the dressing room for the first intermission.
The Pack came out of the dressing room with renewed focus for the second period looking to chip away at Oshawa’s lead, but despite outshooting the Generals by a margin of 20-12 in the period, were unable to put any pucks behind Oster, and after the second period, the score remained 3-1 for the Generals with one period left to play in the hockey game.
Just under five minutes into the third period, Kieron Walton continued his personal hot streak by scoring his 13th goal of the season and keeping his scoring streak of five games in a row with at least one goal intact to make the score 3-2 for Oshawa.
With 1:13 left to play in the hockey game and with the Wolves’ net empty for an extra skater, Luca D’Amato scored his first goal of the season to complete a 4-2 win over Sudbury.
With the loss, the Sudbury Wolves earned four out of a possible six points with two wins in three games on the weekend and now hold a record of 12 wins, seven regulation losses, and three overtime losses on the season.
The Wolves have three days off before a home and home series against division rivals the Barrie Colts starting off with a game in Barrie on Nov. 28 with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. followed by the rematch taking place on Nov. 29 with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
