The Sudbury Five announced Monday that guard Jaylen Bland has resigned with the team for the upcoming 2019-20 season.

The 26-year-old Saginaw, Michigan native previously played for the University of California-Riverside.

“I have been around basketball a long time and there’s not very many people out there that shoot the ball as well as Jaylen,” said Sudbury FIVE Head Coach Logan Stutz.

“To give you an idea, over the last two years he is one of five players in the world that has averaged over 4.7 made 3-pointers per game. He has put in the work this off-season and I believe he will even surprise the league more then he did last year.”

Bland was the 2018-19 NBLC Newcomer of the Year with the Five and averaged 19 points per game, six rebounds per game, while shooting 36 per cent from beyond the 3-point line and 83 per cent from the free throw line.

He was also one of the team’s most versatile players last season.

“Five Fans, What it dooo babyyyy! I’m baaack this season and I’m looking forward to getting back to the  city to continue our journey together,” said Bland. “It’s always felt like home to me and I’m extremely excited to get there and to get to work with my guys. It’s time to bring some new hardware to the Nickel City. Let’s goooooooooo!”

Jaylen, is one of seven players that will be on-hand this Saturday at the Winter Drive with the Five event at Cambrian College. Both camp sessions are full, however fans interested in donating winter clothing items are encouraged to come down to Cambrian College between 2 and 3 p.m. for player autographs and a chance to win prizes with the sock toss.

The Five open their pre-season at home on Nov. 22 when they host the Moncton Magic at 7:05 p.m.
