A well-respected athlete, coach, and sport psychologist has joined Laurentian University in the sport psychology program. Robert SchinkeÂ?s arrival on campus comes on the heels of his participation at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England, as a psychologist on CanadaÂ?s boxing team, which placed first overall.

Schinke is an international equestrian event rider who competes as an elite athlete at several major competitions such as the World Cup. In 1987, he claimed a silver medal in the Pan American Games and is seeking to qualify for the 2002 Pan American Games.

He has been called upon to share his expertise with the Canadian equestrian teams, the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association, and the Canadian National Shooting Team. He worked for the Canadian Olympic Association in the 1995 Pan American Games and the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

Schinke will be featured on the Discovery Channel on Sept. 21 as part of a feature on sports psychology as a result of his affiliation with 12 world-championship medal winning boxers in 2001.
