The Jeno Tihanyi Long-Course Regional Swim Championships provided one final opportunity for swimmers nearing the end of the 2013-2014 competitive season, and the crew representing the Nickel City Aquatics came through with flying colours.

Nearly every single one of the 14 athletes donning the NCA colours managed to register a top 10 finish, with several reaching the podium. The medal winners were led by 13-year-old Joseph Deni, who showed the way in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events, finishing fourth in the 800m freestyle.

Silver-medal winners included Abigail McDonald (50m freestyle; 100m butterfly), Sidney Musicco (100m and 200m butterfly) and Gavin Staalstra (1500m freestyle).

Joshua Clapham (200m freestyle) and Michael Reich (50m breaststroke) rounded out the top-three finishers, each earning a bronze medal.

The summer and fall of 2014 promise to be one of transition with the Nickel City Aquatics, as a new face steps in to head up the program.

The retirement of longtime local swim coach Richard Buwaj opened the door, with former Laurentian University assistant coach Alain Delorme stepping in to fill the void.
