Dominance over the Peterborough Thunderbolts wasn’t quite enough to allow the Northern Chill 18U Whiteout boys to climb the ranks a whole lot, competing in Waterloo, just before Christmas.

Slotted into Pool B in the 12-team playdown, the Chill dropped their opener to the Niagara Rapids – Legend, 19-25, 22-25, playing at the same site (RIM Park) that will be used for OVA provincials in the spring.

Right back on the floor for Game 2, the Sudbury lads racked up their first of two victories on the day over the Thunderbolts, defeating Peterborough 25-23, 25-19 to finish second in their bracket and earn a pre-quarter final matchup with C3.

Without a whole lot to choose between the two teams, the Waves Blue from Etobicoke slipped past the northern crew 25-21, 25-22, relegating the Chill Whiteout to the consolation side of the draw.

There, they would meet a familiar opponent in their final match of the day, sweeping the Peterborough Thunderbolts for a second time (25-20, 25-11), and slotting into a ninth-place ranking after entering the event at No. 10.

In just their second year with the Northern Chill Volleyball Club, the 18U boys team encompasses Eric Dissanayake, Ryan Deresti, Jaden Martin, David Pigozzo, Laydon Bursey, Logan Nicholls, Parker Farstad, Mathieu Beauchamp and Jason Diotte.
