The Sudbury Northern Junior Wolves took the
first game in the Paul Lizotte Fuels Challenge Cup by dumping
the North Bay Skyhawks 3-0 on Thursday night.
The Wolves got goals from Josh Slobodian,
Jordan Prevost and Matt Chuipka. Brian McGarry added assists on
all three goals.
The game erupted into total chaos in the
second period when a line brawl broke out after the Wolves
third goal. The brawl included both goalies going toe-to-toe.
For his part, Wolves' netminder Darren Rowlandson was ejected
from the game. The Wolves' regular back up, Jesse Pischlar
wasn't dressed due to an injury, so veteran forward Nick Heins
stepped in between the pipes to man the Wolves' net for the
remainder of the game.
Heins was perfect, stopping 11 shots he
faced.
The Wolves take on the Skyhawks again, today
in North Bay. The Wolves are 1-1 so far early in the Northern
Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season.
The Wolves versus North Bay games are part of
the Paul Lizotte Cup series.
