Brian McGarry led the charge for the Sudbury Northern Wolves against the visiting Northern Michigan Black Bears with four goals as Sudbury won 4-2.

The win pushes Sudbury's lead in the Eastern Division to 10 points over the North Bay Skyhawks.

Newly acquired Ethan Gazdic started in goal for Sudbury and made 23 saves for the win over his former team.

Sudbury assistant coach Richard MacKenzie thought the game was decided in the first period, where both teams exchanged numerous shots, but produced no goals.

"A strong game from Gazdic in the first helped set the tone defensively."

MacKenzie was impressed with McGarry's four-goal outburst.

"We always expect Brian McGarry to be the best player on the ice and tonight he definitely was."

The Northern Wolves only play two more games in December. MacKenzie is confident it shouldn't stop the boys from being prepared to play hard.

"There's no reason we can't be ready for all of them."

Northern Michigan opened the scoring when Russell Law put the puck past Gazdic at 6:23.

Sudbury replied quickly on the power play when McGarry ripped the puck past Tony Stoehr to tie the game at 9:48.

McGarry scored another goal at 17:08 to give Sudbury a one-goal lead going into the third period.

McGarry scored his hat trick goal on the power play at 4:42 to give the Northern Wolves a two-goal cushion.

Northern Michigan's Steve Kruszewski scored on the power play at 11:35 to bring the Black Bears to one goal.

McGarry then iced the win with his fourth goal of the game at 18:56.

Sudbury's next home game is Wednesday, Dec. 17 against their cross-town rivals the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats. Game time is 7:30 pm.
