The Sudbury Wolves were outshot early on Wednesday night in Hamilton, but still managed to pull out a 3-2 victory.

The Wolves relied heavily on netminder Zack Bowman early on, as the pack were outshot by a count of 14-5 in period number one, but escape with the score tied 1-1 thanks to a goal from Dmitry Sokolov midway through the frame.

The Bulldogs would pull level with about two and a half minutes remaining in the first on a goal from Will Bitten.

Bulldogs winger Matthew Strome continued his excellent season by putting the home side on top a minute into the second period with his 16th goal of the season.

Macauley Carson would answer back for the Wolves at the 7:15 mark of the second to take the teams into the second intermission with nothing between them.

Sudbury narrowed the shot margin slightly in the second by outshooting Hamilton 8-6 to bring the total to 20-13 in favour of the Bulldogs.

The score remained level until the 11-minute mark of the third when Dmitry Sokolov tallied his second goal of the contest and 16th on the season.

That goal was all the Wolves would need to seal the two points.

Sokolov received first star of the game honours for his two-goal performance, and goaltender Zack Bowman took third star in a 28-save effort.

The Wolves get back on the ice at home on Friday night when Northern Ontario rivals the North Bay Battalion pay a visit.
