Firing shots to the buzzer, the Lady Wolves battled to the finish to claim silver at the 2019 Esso Cup.
The final tally was 4-1 for the St. Albert Slash, following an epic gold medal game this afternoon at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
This is the third consecutive Esso Cup gold for the Slash, who were one player short as a result of an early-game injury.
Classy in defeat, Lady Wolves' Taylor Scott said that making it to the finals as hosts showed they belonged on that ice and that they are on the right track to pushing their game even further.
Head Coach Jay Duncan said his team left it all on the ice. "We did a lot of things good," said Duncan.
One of the strengths Duncan believes has led to the team's success these past two years is their bond, strategically encouraged by the coaching staff.
"My thing is, i want all of our girls to work as a team," said Duncan. "If you try to work as individuals, you're not going to accomplish as much as you can with a strong team on the ice. Without each other they have nothing and that has always been the message for the last two years."
Put on skates by her father at the age of three, Mylène Lefebvre understands just how connected people can be when they bond over a shared love of sport.
"A lot of us have been playing together since Novice, so we've been doing this for more than 9 years now ... we really know how the other feels," said Lefebvre. "I think we're a family, we're really a tight-knit group."
In addition to being able to play with her athletic family, Lefebvre said it was amazing knowing that her family and friends were there to support her.
"If it had been out of town they couldn't have been there to support me, so it was definitely an experience that I'll never be able to live again and I am really thankful that i got to experience it in the first place."
