The Rayside Balfour Canadians will open the 2019-20 NOJHL season at home Thursday against the Powassan Voodoos at 7 p.m.

After a series of exhibition games against the Voodoos this past week, the Canadians will be looking to open the season on a winning note Thursday evening at the Chelmsford Arena.

The home side will feature 13 OHL draft picks, highlighted by 2019 OHL selections Zach Giroux (Flint Firebirds, 57th overall), Mitchell Martin (Kitchener Rangers, 81st overall), and Oliver Smith (Barrie Colts, 167th overall). The Canadians roster will also feature rookies Nick DeGrazia and Samuel Vachon, both drafted by the Sudbury Wolves in the 2019 OHL Under-18 Priority Selection.

While the Canadians roster will include an influx of new players, the Chelmsford Arena will also be welcoming a few familiar faces. The Canadians crease will once again be protected by Unionville native David Bowen for the second straight season.

The 2016 Sudbury Wolves draft selection was a key contributor to the Canadians playoff run last season, collecting a 2.70 goals against average and a 920 save percentage in 12 playoff games. The Rayside roster will also feature a core group of returning players, led by defencemen Zach Snow and Alex Fowke and forwards Brady Maltais, Mathieu Dokis-Dupuis, and Ben Hatanaka.

Tickets for Thursday’s home opener can be purchased at Chelmsford Arena prior to the game.

Admission for adults is $12, seniors $10, and free for youth under 7.

Season tickets for the 2019-20 Canadians season can be purchased at the door during any Canadians home game or by contacting [email protected].
