Rebecca Johnston hits the ice with the Lady Wolves and drops off a big cheque

Olympic hockey player presents a cheque for $21,000 to the Sudbury and District Girls Hockey Association

Rebecca Johnston’s appearance in last January’s NHL All-Star game has paid dividends for the Sudbury and District Girls Hockey Association (SDGHA).

On Jan. 25, 2019, Johnston joined fellow Canadian Renata Fast and U.S. players Kendall Coyne Schofield and Brianna Decker as part of the skills competition during the All-Star game held in San Jose, Calif. Johnston more than held her own during the event.

In exchange for their participation, the NHL Foundation pledged to donate US$25,000 to a charity of choice for each player. Johnston chose the SDGHA.

On Dec. 23, she delivered the cheque and enjoyed a scrimmage with members of the Lady Wolves, who appeared quite excited to share the city with a player of Johnston’s caliber.

Johnston, a former Lady Wolf herself and a graduate of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, hit the ice at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex with the Lady Wolves and seemed to be having a great time with the young players.
