More than Over 100 participants enjoyed the beautiful weather and well groomed trails at the Walden Cross Country Fitness Club (WCCFC) while participating in the Reindeer Rally on Dec. 29.

The Reindeer Rally allowed participants to ski either a 0.7-kilometre, 5.5-km or 16.5-km race using either the skate or classic technique. Many of the participants recorded personal bests, according to a news release from the WCCFC.

In addition, this race featured a Para Nordic category that had some excellent race finishes. WCCFC is the only club in Northern Ontario that currently offers a Para Nordic program. Athletes with disabilities can cross-country ski, either using a sit ski for athletes with mobility disabilities, or blind skiers skiing with the assistance of a trained guide.

All participants and fans from the race were invited to a chili lunch to wrap up the day which was sponsored by the Walden Nordic club.

The club also used the Reindeer Rally to help prepare themselves to host their first Ontario Cup meet which will take place at the Naughton Trails Jan. 19-20.

More than 200 athletes are expected to participate in this two-day event, which will feature athletes from across Ontario, plus local club athletes, many whom are from the Lively Area.
