Incoming coach Chris McInnis had an inkling he had inherited a pretty talented group of local 2003-born AAA hockey talent this year.

At this rate, it won't be long before the entire province will be sharing that same thought.

Competing at an exhibition showcase weekend in Brampton on Saturday and Sunday, the Nickel City Minor Bantam Sons posted an unblemished 4-0 record, as McInnis brings together players from two very competitive Peewee AAA squads from last year.

The Sons doubled the Halton Hurricanes 4-2 in their curtain-riser, with Zacharie Giroux, Jacob Gaudet, Mitchell Martin and Marco Vigna handling the scoring.

The Nickel City lads made it two wins in as many games, recording a 3-1 triumph over the North York Rangers, as Ethan Marois buried a pair of goals to show the way. Defenceman Josh Kavanagh added the remaining tally for the Northern Ontario teens.

A good night's rest did little to slow down the Minor Bantam Sons, edging the Toronto Young Nationals 2-1 Sunday morning on goals from Martin and Devon Savignac.

Saving the best for last, the Sons took down the Mississauga Rebels, 2-1 in overtime, as Marois scored in regulation time, and Savignac added the game winner in the extra session.

Coach McInnis and company will be put to the test again on the weekend of Sept. 8-11, as the crew competes at the Toronto Red Wings Early Bird Tournament.

Nickel City will face the Ottawa Jr 67's, Oakville Rangers, Toronto Marlboros and Markham Waxers in pool play, hoping to secure a spot in either the consolation or championship quarter-finals.

The Nickel City Major Peewee AAA Sons and Major Bantam AAA Sons will also be competing at the Early Bird Tournament.
