A rally will be held Wednesday, May 15 to celebrate the amazing success of the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats.

The Sabrecats are currently competing at the Royal Bank Cup in Halifax after capturing their seventh consecutive Northern Ontario Junior A Hockey League championship.

They advanced to the national championships be defeating a team from Dryden in a best-of-three tournament last week.

?This is the third time in seven years our local team has made it to nationals and that is quite an accomplishment,? said Councillor Ron Dupuis, who is organizing the rally. ?That accomplishment is something we can all be very proud of.?

The rally will take place in the courtyard at Tom Davies Square at 3:30 pm.

?Regardless of whether or not the Sabrecats win the Royal Bank Cup, they deserve to be commended for their efforts,? said Dupuis. ?We invite all citizens to join us for the rally.?

The Sabrecats were silver medalists at the nationals in 2000.

The Sabrecats lost their first three games at nationals earlier this week, but head coach Ken MacKenzie and the players could advance to the semifinals with a win Thursday.
