If youÂ?re one of the small percentage of golfers who can rip it long and straight, you might be very interested in signing up to compete in the Canadian Long Drive Championships regional event this weekend.
The event is co-sponsored by Golf Long Drivers of Canada, the Royal Canadian Golf Association and Canadian Ladies Golf Association.
A series of sanctioned events are held all across the country and this weekend Sudbury and area golfers get to tee it up and rip it as far as they can.
Local golfers are asked to show up at the Practice Tee Driving Range on Goodview Road (near the OPP station across from the Brockdan Hotel) Saturday and Sunday. A second qualifying event is set for the same place on July 6 and 7.
The top male and female local winners will go on to qualify at one of seven regional qualifying events later this summer.
The Canadian championships will be staged at Glen Abbey Golf Course on Sept. 7. The winners there will form Team Canada, who will compete against the top long ball hitters from the United States later this fall.
Last year, more than 50,000 Canadians competed in this event.
