The Sudbury Wolves weren't able to claw back from a tough first period Thursday night as they fell 2-1 on the road to the Peterborough Petes.

Sudbury was outshot by a count of 13-7 in the first frame and fell behind by a score of 2-0 on goals from Christopher Paquette and Cole Fraser who scored three minutes apart in the final five minutes of the period.

Dmitry Sokolov pulled the Wolves within one in the second period, netting his 36th goal of the season, which is good enough for third in the OHL goal scoring race.

That's as close as the Wolves would come however, as the Petes slammed the door shut for the night with goalie Dylan Wells turning aside 27 of 28 shots face.

The Petes outshot the Wolves 37-28 on the evening, as the Wolves once again ran into some penalty trouble, spotting the Petes five opportunities with the man advantage.

Wolves goaltender Jake McGrath earned third star of the game honours for his efforts in the Sudbury goal. Sudbury got one powerplay on the night, but didn't manage to find the net.

The Wolves will hit the road and head to Kingston for a date with the Frontenacs Friday night. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
