Finals to begin on Thursday
The Dudley Hewitt Cup, only one step away from the national championships, will begin in Chelmsford this Thursday.
The seven time Northern Ontario Junior Hockey Association champion Rayside Balfour Sabrecats, fresh off their league championship series win, will face off against the Dryden Ice Dogs in a best-of-five series, with
the winner going on to play in the Royal Bank Cup, the Junior A championship of Canada, in Halifax in May.
The Sabrecats come in on a high, having dusted off the Soo Thunderbirds 4-2 in the NOJHA finals. The Sabrecats won the final two games to take the series after being tied 2-2 in games.
The Dryden Ice Dogs, however, are an unknown.
This was the first year of play for the Superior International Junior Hockey League. The Ice Dogs, third place finishers after the regular season, swept to the SIJHL championship in impressive fashion, sweeping their opponents 8-0 in games and outscoring them 36-19.
The series will begin on Thursday night at the Chelmsford Arena at 7:30 pm. All games will be played there, with games two and three going on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30.

Rayside wins seventh consecutive championship
For the seventh consecutive year, the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats are the NOJHA champions.
The Sabrecats won the sixth game of the best-of-seven series on the road in Sault Ste. Marie, defeating the Soo Thunderbirds 3-1 on Ricco DiCarlantonio's eight goal of the playoffs.
The win gave the Sabrecats a four games to two win in the final series.
DiCarlantonio's game-winner came in the second period after Miguel Beites scored his eighth of the playoffs for Rayside Balfour. Ryan Caicco scored the lone Soo goal.
The Sabrecats move on to the Dudley Hewitt Cup, the championship for the junior A level. They face the Dryden Ice Dogs of the Superior International Junior Hockey League, a team in its first year of existence.
While game times and dates are still undecided, all games will be at the Chelmsford Arena.
