A huge test.
This is how the Laurentian University menÂ's
soccer squad is approaching their big weekend road tilts
against the University of Toronto and York University.
Laurentian faces York on Saturday and Toronto
on Sunday.
Both clubs currently sit above Laurentian in
the OUA North Division. Toronto has 13 points, York has 12 and
Laurentian stands with nine.
The boys in blue and gold will have their
work cut out for them.
Â"These two games will determine where we
will finish in the standings,Â" said head coach Carlo
Castrechino. Â"This is also a test to see where we are as a
team as the playoffs approach.Â"
The club will use the standard one game at a
time approach for the weekend.
Â"The game on Saturday against York is a must
win,Â" said Castrechino. Â"A loss or draw will put us in third
and, depending on how Nipissing University
does on the weekend, we could be in a battle
with them for fourth. If we win both games, then we have a good
chance at first, so you can see how
important these games are this
weekend.Â"
Castrechino will be looking to his veterans
to take control of the team during the pivotal matches.
Â"Our veterans have to step up this weekend
for sure,Â" said Castrechino. Â"Players such as Luis Andrez,
Ryan Armstrong and Stephen Soutar have to
lead this team. We also need to keep
goal-scoring going with Joe Jesseau and Giuseppe
Politi.Â"
Now is the time for the squad to take a stand
and whip themselves into form.
Â"We have been a very inconsistent team as of
late, and we need to start playing a better all-around game,Â"
said Castrechino. Â"The playoffs are around
the corner, so we need to start playing
playoff soccer...with more intensity and mistake-free.Â"
