Cloé Lacasse is heading south of the border come September after signing on with the University of Iowa's soccer team.

The Hawkeyes are part of the Big Ten NCAA Division One post-secondary schools.

Lacasse, a MacDonald-Cartier student, has been named MVP for the school's soccer team three times, as well as the MVP of the volleyball team and the Sudbury female athlete of the year following her junior year.

She was a member of the Sudbury Canadians for 12 years and was the top scorer in multiple seasons.

"Cloé Lacasse, is a great addition to Iowa's attack,” Hawkeyes head coach Ron Rainey said. “Cloé is a goal scorer, pure and simple. She has that mentality to put the ball in the back of the net and she does some of the little things that help create attacking chances in games."

For the Sudbury Canadians and head coach Frank Malvaso, Lacasse marks the 10th soccer player to join the NCAA. The Canadians lead the northern Ontario record on all NCAA soccer scholarships, including a significant amount of CIA University soccer level promotions.

"We are happy to have some of our players make it all the way up to the top university soccer teams on the Canadian side, as well as the American side of the border, but the players deserve all the credit," Malvaso said.

When asked how Lacasse would do in the Big Ten Conference, Malvaso said, "Cloe is a top scorer in the Ontario Soccer Association at her age level and will prove to be a major asset for the University of Iowa. After they see her play, I have no doubts that our phone will be ringing off the hook asking for new prospects.”
