The Canadians, Sudbury ladies? soccer club, stunned the opposition in their first USL game Sunday defeating the highly ranked Toronto Inferno 5-1.

While Inferno were short players Carmelina Moscato and Candace Chapman who were called up to the national team playing England this week, the Inferno were caught off guard by the hard working Canadians who quickly proved they could score goals in the Unites Soccer League.

Canadians head coach Frank Malvaso is pleased with the results.

?There is no doubt that we surprised a lot of people and I have no doubt that the Inferno will back to avenge this loss.

?As much as we won this game I am more pleased with the fact that our players showed that they could compete in the USL.?

Malvaso went on to say the Canadians are a much younger team than most USL teams and they still have very much to learn.

?We know that we have many more challenges ahead of us, but our future is looking very bright, and I think we have taken a very important step forward.?

The home opener is this Saturday, May 24 at 3 pm at Cambrian College.
