At their final outing of the season, more than 50 competitive boys and girls from the Sudbury Laurels Gymnastics Club performed personal bests at the North Bay Sunshine Classic, held on the weekend.

More than 400 competitors representing clubs from all over Ontario took part, vying for the top spots in provincial and interclub categories.

"Our athletes love to end their competitive season at this competition,” Sudbury Laurels director Lisa Kivinen said. "Many of them incorporate new skills, new routines and some even move to a higher level in preparation for next year. It is a great competitive opportunity for our club.”

Some of the top performances of the weekend came from the boys program.

"Our competitive boys have really made their mark in the province this year," boys head coach Michelle Seanor said. "This competition provided our younger boys an opportunity to perform with some of our provincial medallists and earn their own hardware at the same time.

"Our athletes are coming home with many medals and personal bests," Kivinen added. "I am very proud of every athlete's personal development and to end the season on such a high note is a definite bonus."
