They may be small, in numbers, but they are mighty.

“They” are the Trampoline and Tumbling, and the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics component of the Sudbury Laurels club. Both sections have shined in recent months, with plenty more to come from the local participants.

Climbing the provincial ladder in making the move from 22nd (2015) to 10th in Ontario this year, Paulena Moote has translated a highly successful season into an appearance at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Quebec City from May 6 to 8.

Moote represented the Laurels in Provincial Level 4 trampoline competition in Barrie, earning her spot on the Ontario team that will head east next month.

Once she has returned from the Eastern Meet, it will be time for her teammates to hit the road, as male trampolinists Kyle Lapierre and Sebastien Larochelle travel to nationals at the end of May.

The local tandem have already qualified for the 2016 Canadian Championships in Edmonton, taking place from May 31 to June 5.

Based on his performance over the course of this season, Lapierre will enter the event as the highest ranked athlete on Team Ontario.

In other news, Connor MacDonald wrapped up his campaign in style, registering personal best scores on both the high bar and parallel bars, while taking part in Provincials from April 8 to  10 in Mississauga.

MacDonald earned a bronze medal for his floor routine, adding a sixth place ribbon on both the rings and parallel bars.
