It was an action-packed Friday night at Sudbury Community Arena as 4,259 fans were treated to an overtime thriller between the visiting Barrie Colts and the Sudbury Wolves.
Nate Krawchuk was the starting goaltender for the Wolves while the Colts went with Sam Hillebrandt between the pipes on the road.
At the 5:10 mark of the first period Riley Patterson opened the scoring on the power play with his fifth goal of the season to put the Barrie Colts on top by a score of 1-0.
With 5:14 remaining in the opening period, Cole Beaudoin scored his fifth goal of the season to give Barrie an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period was uneventful until the 12:41 mark of the period when Nick DeAngelis scored his fourth goal of the season for the Wolves, cutting Barrie’s lead to 2-1.
With 3:36 remaining in the middle frame, Kieron Walton scored his seventh goal of the season for the equalizer and tied the game 2-2 for the Wolves with one period left to play in regulation.
The Sudbury Wolves dominated the play in the third period out shooting Barrie by a margin of 11-4 but neither team could put the puck in the back of the net in the period, so the game was headed to overtime.
Just 2:03 into the extra period Kashawn Aitcheson scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Barrie Colts a road overtime win by a score of 3-2.
With the loss, the Sudbury Wolves earn a single point and now hold a record of eight wins, six regulation losses, and two overtime losses on the season.
The Sudbury Wolves get right back on the ice tonight, Nov. 9, in a rematch against the Colts, this time in Barrie, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
