Sudbury native coming home as Wolves acquire Chenier from Battalion

The Sudbury Wolves announced that they have acquired overage forward and Sudbury native Brad Chenier from the North Bay Battalion. 

In exchange, the Wolves trade overage forward and co-captain Shane Bulitka, a third round draft pick in 2023 and a conditional eighth round pick in 2022 to the Battalion.

“We cannot thank Shane Bulitka enough for the contribution he has made to both the Sudbury Wolves and the city of Greater Sudbury,” said Sudbury Wolves vice president and General Manager Rob Papineau. 

“Shane has been an outstanding teammate and person. Shane has left an incredible mark on our entire organization and we wish Shane the best of luck with this next chapter in his hockey career. 

At the same time, we are very excited to be able to welcome Hanmer native Brad Chenier home. He has also enjoyed an outstanding OHL career with the North Bay Battalion and he is having a career year this season. Brad is a very intelligent player who plays the game with a very high level of compete every shift. He is a warrior and he is very excited to come home to finish his OHL career and help us win.”

Chenier plays on the left wing and has notched 42 points through 37 games this season including 19 goals and 23 assists. The 5-11, 185 lb. forward has played 241 career OHL games for the Battalion over the past four and a half seasons and has picked up 154 points including 73 goals and 81 assists as well as added 250 PIMS.

Chenier will join his new teammates in Sudbury on Friday, however, won’t be able to dress until Sunday as he serves out games two and three of his suspension. The Wolves will visit the Barrie Colts tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Fans can also watch on OHL Live and Eastlink Channel 10 and 610. This Thursday, fans can also come out to Overtime Sports Bar and Grill to join in on the SWSE Watch Party as both the Wolves and Sudbury Five take to the road. 

The party gets underway at 5:30 p.m. and there will be lots of fun and prizes for fans in attendance. Overtime will also have special offers throughout the night.

The Wolves will then return home to host the North Bay Battalion and Mississauga Steelheads this weekend in double-header action on Friday and Sunday at the Sudbury Arena. Friday’s game begins at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday’s game starts at 2:05 p.m.
