If, as the old saying goes, good things come in threes (Latin:Omne trium perfectum) then this could be a banner week for fans of the Sudbury Wolves.
The hometown Wolves are gearing up for an action-packed week at the Sudbury Community Arena, hosting three games no less.
It all starts with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Wednesday (7:05 p.m.), followed by the Niagara IceDogs on Friday (7:05 p.m.), and the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday (2:05 p.m.).
The Sudbury Wolves (20-11-5-0) are in strong form this season, sitting third in the OHL's Central Division and 4th in the Eastern Conference with 45 points.
They are just four points behind both the Oshawa Generals and the Niagara IceDogs, making this week’s games crucial as they continue their push for a higher seed ahead of the postseason, said a Wolves news release.
Prior to the Jan. 5 match-up, the team earned critical points against North Bay, Kitchener, Brampton, and Barrie. With an important week ahead, the Wolves are looking to pick things back up and continue their strong play on home ice.
Kieron Walton has been a standout player for Sudbury this season, leading the team with 63 points (23 goals, 40 assists).
Walton currently ranks third in the OHL for points and first in assists. His remarkable 18- game point streak, which began on November 15, extended further after Sunday’s game with an assist on Kocha Delic’s goal, bringing his streak total to 42 points.
Walton’s offensive prowess has been a key factor in the Wolves and has proven to be an offensive threat, said the Wolves release.
