The Sudbury Community Arena welcomed 50 players this week as the Sudbury Wolves kicked off their 50th anniversary season with a training camp.

The camp is expected to run until Sept. 2, and provides players with a chance to earn their spot on the OHL team’s 2022-23 roster.

Orientation camp ran Monday and Tuesday with 32 prospects attending, including Wolves’ top picks from the 2022 OHL Priority Selection Nathan Villeneuve, Kieron Walton and Conor Walton. The 32 prospects include four goalies, 10 defencemen and 18 forwards.

The main camp begins today (Wednesday) and runs until Friday. Its participants include Dallas Stars prospect Jacob Holmes, Seattle Kraken prospect David Goyette, Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Nolan Collins and 2021 1st overall and Jack Ferguson Award recipient Quentin Musty.

Overage players Nick DeGrazia, and Dylan Robinson will look to leave their mark on the league along with newly acquired overage goaltender Joe Ranger.

This will be the first chance for newly appointed assistant coaches Gary Ricciardi and Rick Dorval to join head coach Craig Duncanson behind the bench.

On-ice scrimmages are free and open to the public, and fans are encouraged to come down to cheer on the Wolves.

The main camp scrimmage schedule is as follows:

Aug 31:

3-4:30 p.m.: Team Blue versus Team White

Sept. 1:

10:15-11:45 a.m.: Team White versus Team Green

3-4:30 p.m.: Team Blue versus Team Green

Sept. 2:

10 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Team Blue versus Team White

The Wolves will begin their 2022-23 regular season at home on Sept. 30 when they will host the Barrie Colts. Single-game tickets go on sale for pre-season and regular season games in early September.
