The Sudbury Five announced Nov. 11 that Carl Lewis will join the roster for the upcoming season.

Lewis is a four-star high school player and EYBL standout. He recently attended New Mexico State before he withdrew and chose to take his career to the professional level.

At just 18 years of age, Lewis is one of the many players that are starting to bypass the NCAA system to further their career.

“I am very excited to have landed Carl here in Sudbury,” said Sudbury Five head coach Logan Stutz. “The NCAA system is a great system, but its not for everybody. It took a lot of conversation with Carl and his agent to make sure Sudbury was the right fit for him, and I am now certain that it is.”

The 6-10, 280 lb. California native, will play centre/power forward for the Sudbury Five this coming season.

One of his many accomplishments as a high school player was winning Southern California player of the week. Lewis had 53 points and 15 rebounds in one game while also having 52 points and 12 rebounds in another game during that same week.

“Carl is a high level talent,” said Stutz. “He has all the physical tools and size to make an impact at any level. Our goal here in Sudbury is to get him to learn the pro game and grow his knowledge and understanding of the game to the same level that his talent is at. Once that is achieved there’s no doubt in my mind you will see Carl in the NBA one day.”

Carl is also very excited to be in Sudbury and has already been hard at work preparing for the season.

“I’m really excited for my first season of professional basketball. Lets get a championship now, Sudbury, I am here!” said Lewis.

Training camp for the Five opens this weekend, with the team set to open their pre-season at home on Nov. 22 when they host the Moncton Magic at 7:05 p.m.

Individual game tickets are now on-sale at the Sudbury Arena Box Office or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets. Season Memberships are still on-sale.
