The Sudbury Atom "C" Lady Wolves went to school in the round robin portion of the Clearview Pink in the Valley tournament earlier this month, and it paid off big time in the consolation final.
Defeats by scores of 4-2 to the Russell Coyotes and 3-1 to the Timmins Falcons were sandwiched around a more lopsided loss to the Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds.
It mattered not come Saturday evening as the Lady Wolves picked the ideal time to hit the win column, riding a two goal effort from Izabel Courville to a consolation crown. Remaining Sudbury goal scorers at the tournament included Rory Soucie, Kaylee Alberton and Aiden Panella.
Goaltenders Daniela Grottoli and Macey Gaudin-Blanchette showed well between the pipes, but certainly had their work cut out for them. Rounding up the roster for the Atom "C" crew are Kiera Briscoe, Gracie Caridade, Peyton Aikia, Anna Svalina, Chelsea Chenier, Tessa Pilotte, Amber Rancourt, Kendra Cole, Gracey Paul, Addison Gibbs and Maxyme Brulé.
The team bench staff includes head coach Paul Courville, assistant coaches Mike Pilotte, Mike Paul and Aaron Aikia, as well as trainer Tina Svalina.
The Peewee "B" Lady Wolves also captured the consolation contest in their division, following up a 1-1-1 preliminary round set with a 6-2 triumph over the host Clearview Ice Cats.
Prior to that encounter, the Sudbury girls had lost to the North Halton Twisters (6-1), doubled the Ice Cats (4-2) and tied the Caledon Coyotes (1-1).
Competing in the Senior "A" division, the Sudbury Intermediate "A" Lady Wolves advanced to the finals before succumbing to the Kitchener Lady Rangers. The locals played to a 2-2 draw with the Kensington Valley Ravens in their opener, upended the Brampton Canadettes 5-2 in game two, before suffering a 3-0 loss to the Lady Rangers.
After steamrolling the Canadettes 8-1 in their elimination game, coach Dan Cacciotti and company worked their way to the gold medal encounter with a 2-1 win over Kensington Valley.
The 2017-2018 Intermediate "A" Lady Wolves team is comprised of Darcie Roy, Kennedy Roy, Melissa Poliquin, Melissa Martel, Amy Laframboise, Alyssa Frising, Joelle Belanger, Kaylie Venedam, Alexie Lavoie, Vanessa Charbonneau, Megan Smith, Sydney Cameron, Kate Landers, Alicia Gillies, Madyson Tellier, Cassandra Cacciotti, Jennifer Hewitt, Andrea McKinnley Lacroix and Terri-Anne Dempsey.
Still with tournament play, the 23rd annual Sudbury Girls Snowflake Challenge is set for the weekend of December 8th to 10th, with teams from across the province competing in both houseleague and rep brackets in a variety of age groupings.
