The Nickel Capital Wolves are going to have a tough road to get to the playoff round at the Telus Cup after they dropped their third straight game on Wednesday.

After sputtering in the first period of game two against the Notre Dame Hounds, the Wolves got out to a stronger start Wednesday against the Moncton Flyers, keeping nearly even on the shot clock with Moncton getting the slight edge 11-10.

The Flyers got on the board with a power play goal at the 12:25 mark of the first period, and the Flyers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The second period was the Wolves' undoing however, as Moncton stormed the Sudbury net, putting four goals past Alex Vendette on 12 shots. The Wolves did manage to outshoot Moncton 17-12 in the second period.

Moncton scored a pair of power play goals early in the second period with Lukas Cormier and Patrick LeBlanc scoring for the visitors within the first three minutes. Cole Stewart added a third in the period at the nine minute mark.

Brett McGlade answered for the Wolves just two minutes later to give his team some life, bringing the score to 4-1.

Evan Jackson would put the game out of reach however, scoring with just under 90 seconds to play in the second. The teams played a scoreless third period and Moncton skated away with a 5-1 win, their first of the tournament.

With the loss, the Wolves move to 0-3 and sit in sixth place.

In other Wednesday action, the Notre Dame Hounds continued to roll along, handing the Cantonniers de Magog their first loss and moving to 3-0 to sit atop the standings. The Lethbridge Hurricanes stayed undefeated as well, skating to a 3-3 tie with the Toronto Young Nationals.

Thursday's action will feature a battle of the two unbeaten teams in an all-western Canadian showdown between Lethbridge and Notre Dame at noon.

Moncton will take on Toronto at 3:30 p.m. in a game that has big playoff implications as the two teams sit fourth and fifth respectively with just four teams moving on to play on the weekend.

The Nickel Capital Wolves are on the ice at their usual 7 p.m. time slot, facing off with Magog and in search of their first win of the 2018 Telus Cup.
