It was a tough weekend for Laurentian Voyageurs athletes as a number of teams were on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

The lone bright spot however were the men's and women's swim teams, who each finished on the podium twice over the weekend.

The women's team claimed second place at a pair of meets at Guelph and Brock University on Saturday and Sunday respectively, while the men took first place at both meets.

Over to the frozen water now, where the men's and women's hockey teams both fell to the Nipissing Lakers, the women dropping a 3-1 decision and the men losing 4-3 in a shootout.

Laurentian's men's basketball team didn't receive a very warm welcome on their trip out west to the University of Saskatchewan Tournament, losing all three games by double digit margins.

Lakehead University deafeated Laurentian 85-70, before the Mount Royal Cougars of Calgary beat the Voyageurs 103-89 and the host University of Saskatchewan Huskies took a 73-60 win over the Sudbury boys.

At home on the soccer pitch, the Lady Vees suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, but managed to secure a single point in a 0-0 draw with Royal Military College.

The men's team dropped a crucial matchup with the Queen's Gaels by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. Laurentian came into Saturday's game trailing Queen's by just four points in the East Division standings with a game in hand.

Laurentian's loss coupled with Nipissing's win over RMC on Saturday officially elimated the Voyageurs from playoff contention. The boys did manage a consolation 2-0 win over RMC to wrap up the season, but neither the men or women will be competing in the OUA soccer playoffs this year.
