Northern Life is once again a media sponsor for the Chip in for Charity Golf Tournament next month.

This year proceeds from the event will go to the Heart and Soul campaign.

Dan Boyd, chair of the Chip in for Charity organizing committee, says the event is a very worthwhile cause.

Teams pay $1,100 each to take part in the event, while sponsors contribute to its success as well.

He feels community members who take part in the tournament do so because they want to show their appreciation to the city they call home.

Â?ItÂ?s a nice feeling. All the people on the committee and many taking part in the tournament are business people who live in Sudbury and make money here. So it is nice to be able to give back to the community,Â? said Boyd.

The Chip in for Charity committee chair has worked on this project for five years.

Boyd said he feels all participants in the Chip in for Charity golf tournament go home happy.

Â?Everybody gets a prize, with minimum value of $60 or $70. There are also bigger prizes like beer fridges, mountain bikes, television sets and barbecues.Â?

According to Chip in for Charity organizer Cindy Cheslock, the lure of prizes often inspires golfers to give a little extra on the course.

Â?WeÂ?ll have some pretty good players out there. TheyÂ?re most definitely trying to win, said Cheslock. Â?The prizes given out make it worth while to put in a good show. The participants are there to have a great day of golfing, chatting, and winning.Â?

The 14th Annual Chip in for Charity golf tournament will begin at 1 pm Aug. 8 at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club.
