In advance of last week’s Ontario Hockey League trade deadline, the Sudbury Wolves made a few moves and brought some new faces into the fold.
The Pack picked up Jack Ziliotto, who was playing in B.C., Calgary Flames prospect Henry Mews, goaltender Karsen Chartier from the Sarnia Sting and defenceman Noah Roberts from the Brampton Bulldogs.
“Jack has been having a great season in Trail in the BCHL and is committed to RPI in the NCAA in the future,” said Wolves VP and GM Rob Papineau in a news release. “He is a guy our scouts and coaches felt from watching will help our hockey club this season. He adds size and skill as a big right shot forward.”
Hailing from Waterdown, Ziliotto is 6-2, 185 lbs, forward who shoots right. He spent the season with Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL. Ziliolto was one of the team’s top offensive producers with 27 points, including 11 goals and 16 assists through 33 games played.
“We are very excited to add Henry Mews to our team,” Papineau said. “He is an elite defenceman with tremendous offensive skills and leadership. To make a trade like this, you have to be able to part with a good young player.”
The Wolves traded Nolan Jackson and future draft selections to the Ottawa 67s in exchange for Mews, who is also a Calgary Flames prospect, picked in the third round of the 2024 draft.
Standing 6-1 and weighing 183-pounds, the right-shot defender from Ottawa played 158 regular season games with the 67’s and 21 post season games.
He is the top scoring defenceman in the OHL with 50 points, including 11 goals and 39 assists through 38 games played. The Wolves say he is “a tough defensive player with a strong offensive prowess.”
The Pack also announced they traded Andrew Gaulton to the Sarnia Sting in exchange for Karsen Chartier, who actually comes from Sudbury.
“We wish Andrew all the best moving forward and welcome Karsen and his family to the Wolves organization,” said Papineau in a release. “Karsen is a local goalie who we feel will continue to develop under the guidance of Mike Lawrence and Matty Mayhew.”
Chartier was selected 91st overall by the Sarnia Sting during the 2022 OHL priority selection. Born in 2006 with two years of eligibility remaining after this season, Chartier fills the net with his 6-3, 181-lbs frame. He played 24 games with the Sting and currently plays with the Greater Sudbury Cubs.
And finally, the Pack announced they have acquired defenceman Noah Roberts from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange two second-round selections, one third-round and a conditional future OHL draft selection.
“Noah is a veteran defenceman who has strong skating ability and heavy checking strength,” said Papineau. “He keeps the game in front of him and is a physical defender who opposing players don’t enjoy playing against. He makes a strong first pass and brings leadership and outstanding hockey pedigree.”
At 6-1 and 195-lbs, the defenceman from Uxbridge was drafted by the Bulldogs’ 53rd overall in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He has played 142 regular season games with the Bulldogs and 11 post season games. This season he has played 37 games, notching 12 points including four goals and eight assists.
