The Sudbury Five paid a visit to the London Lightning on March 15 and wound up defeating the league leaders 113-102.
Jeremy Harris led Sudbury in scoring with 25, followed closely by A.J. Mosby Jr. with 23. The Five also led in field goals in this one, shooting for 46.1 per cent to London’s 44.7 per cent.
In terms of three-pointers, again Sudbury had a slight edge on the Lightning, shooting for 39.1 per cent to London’s 37.1 per cent.
Sudbury didn’t lead in all stats though. London out-rebounded the Five 51-47 and absolutely destroyed them on rebounds, 20-8.
In terms of scoring, Sudbury jumped out to a massive early lead that the Lightning wasn’t able to overcome. The first quarter ended with the Five up 32-16.
London outscored Sudbury in the second quarter, though, 25 to 20, but it wouldn’t be enough to capture the lead, and the quarter ended 55-51 for the Five.
Sudbury again outscored the Lightning in the third quarter, 31-26.
Heading into the final quarter up 86-77, Sudbury found themselves battling a surging Lightning squad who pushed hard to eke out a win. London did manage to outscore Sudbury in the fourth, 35-30, but that slim margin wouldn’t be enough to turn the tide of the game, which ended with a final score of 113-102.
London remains on top of the National Basketball League of Canada conference with a record of 9-4. The Five sit second at 7-4.
Sudbury is still on the road this week. On Friday, they’ll be in Windsor to take on the Express. They return home March 19 when the visiting Lightning will come to the Nickel City looking for revenge.
