The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that third-round draft selection Trenton Bourque has committed to play in the OHL and has accepted an educational scholarship with the Sudbury Wolves.
The 6-2, 180-pound defenceman was selected 51st overall in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection by the Sudbury Wolves. The native of Burlington, Ont., played for the Hamilton Bulldogs Minor Midget AAA team last season and compiled 21 points in 40 games. He recorded 44 minutes in penalties.
“It is an honour to have been selected by the Wolves and to become a part of their organization” said Bourque. “This is a new experience and a new opportunity for me. I cannot wait to attend camp and begin training with the Wolves. It is going to be a change, but I believe it will be an exciting change.”
Bourque is a top prospect for the Wolves, as well as being an excellent student who is very dedicated to his education, the Wolves said in a news release. Bourque recently completed Grade 10 with a 80-plus-per-cent average at the academic level and he is looking to major in math and science.
“Trenton is a gifted player and an outstanding young man” said Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith. “We were thrilled to be able to draft Trenton with our second selection, and we are very pleased that he has put his trust in our coaches’ ability to develop his skills for the next level.
“Our coaches were instrumental in recruiting Trenton to Sudbury, and we are very pleased to add an excellent prospect like Trenton to our organization.”
Wolves’ Head Scout Andrew Shaw said Bourque has “excellent hockey sense and possesses natural offensive instincts.”
“Trenton is an outstanding skater. He is big and he plays with a physical edge. He is solid defensively, smart and has excellent upside. Trenton will be a very exciting player to watch.”
Bourque joins fellow 2014 drafted prospects Michael Pezzetta and Brady Pataki, who have also committed to playing for the Sudbury Wolves. All three youngsters will be arriving in Sudbury on Thursday, Aug. 28 to compete for a roster spot on the 2014-15 edition of the Sudbury Wolves.
