Sudbury athletes Ayla Frank, Paige Eastwood and Justin Savard all took a shot at the title in the

World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) Canada National Kickboxing Championship recently, and two of them came out on top.

All three athletes train at the Sudbury Kickboxing Academy.

The event took place in Niagara Falls from June 3 to June 5.

Frank was named the +70kg K-1 champion after winning her final match Sunday, June 5. On Saturday June 4 Frank ended her first bout in round one with three-eight counts.

Eastwood weighed in at +70kg and was named the low kick champion on Sunday. Her opponents failed to show for the weekend which had her head on forward to the finals on Sunday where she won her final match.

Savard weighed in at -86kg and was finalized as a silver medallist after winning his first match on Saturday round one, three-eight counts.

He continued to win for his second match Sunday morning with the judges unanimous vote and later that evening he lost his final match. Savard went up a weight division to compete on that level and gain experience.
