The Sudbury Jam U13 girls basketball team completed a spectacular run at the Ontario Basketball League's Elite League (OBLX) with a gold medal victory at the provincial championships last weekend.

The team participated in the OBLX Championships held at Seneca College in a single elimination, March Madness style tournament. The girls showed tremendous heart, skill and courage to open with a 44-32 win over Mississauga to advance to the semi-final.

In the semi-final the Sudbury girls faced the defending champions and number one seeded Durham City. The girls played a remarkable game. Strong defense and great team play was on display throughout the game as the JAM shocked the tournament favourites with a convincing 60-41 win to advance to the championship game.

In the final, the girls overcame an early deficit to come back and defeat Waterloo 39-34 and become the first team from Northern Ontario to ever claim the Ontario Basketball Elite League championship.

With this win, the girls are the number one ranked team out of all U13 teams across the province.
