With only three games left in the regular
season, the Laurentian University women's soccer team still
has not been scored on, nor lost a game.
The Lady Vees tied the McMaster University
Marauders 0-0 at the Laurentian field on Saturday.
Katie McNamara was spectacular in net for
Laurentian, making several key saves.
The Lady Vees were back in action Sunday
afternoon against the Brock University Badgers.
Once again stellar defence played a vital
role for the Lady Vees as they walked away with a 1-0
win.
Jolene Fournier registered the contest's
only marker.
Julia Boschetto was solid in net for the Lady
Vees.
"We really needed this win," head coach Rob
Gallo said in a press release.
"The team played excellent defence and
I'm happy we picked up the three points."
The Lady Vees now stand in second place in
the OUA North division with 13 points.
The ladies will take a break for Thanksgiving
before heading to Toronto for a pair of games the following
weekend.
They take on York University Oct. 16 and the
University of Toronto Oct. 17.
The men's soccer team split this past
weekend in matches against the same teams as the women.
On Saturday, the men defeated the McMaster
University marauders 4-2.
The Voyageurs were relentless all game.
Joe Jesseau lead the offensive attack with
another three-goal performance, matching the offensive
explosion he had against Nipissing University Sept. 18.
Newcomer Matt Boulton scored the other
Laurentian goal.
"I was pleased with the overall effort of the
team,"said head coach Carlo Castrechino.
"There was a bit of a defensive lapse for
about 20 minutes in the second half, but we finished the game
strong."
The men hit the pitch again on Sunday
afternoon for a game against the Brock University
Badgers.
The men dropped Sunday's game against
Brock 2-1.
Boulton scored the lone tally for the
men's squad.
The men now stand third in the OUA North
Division with nine points.
The men also get a break for Thanksgiving
before joining the Lady Vees for a pair of games in
Toronto.
The OUA playoffs for both squads start Oct.
29.
