The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team picked up points in both of their games over the weekend, and grabbed their first win along the way.

The ladies fought to a tough 4-3 shootout loss on the road to the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night, before defeating the Laurier Golden Hawks 2-0 for their first win of the 2019-20 OUA season.

Over on the men's side, home ice didn't prove to be an advantage for the Voyageurs, who dropped both games of a double header against the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes by scores of 4-1 and 4-3 on Friday and Saturday respectively.

It's been an up and down start for the men's team, who now hold a record of 2-3-1 in five games and sit in ninth place of 10 teams in the East Division.

The ladies sit 10th out of 13 teams in the women's division.

On the hardwood, both Voyageurs teams opened their seasons over the weekend with the ladies earning a split, winning big over Ontario Tech by a score of 68-48, before dropping a close 76-73 game against the Queen's Gaels.

The men's basketball team made light work of Ontario Tech on Friday, blowing out the visitors by a score of 90-57. The boys kept rolling on Saturday, edging Queen's by just four points in an 86-82 game.

The ladies sit second in their division with a 1-1 record, while the men's team is out to an early lead in their division thanks to their 2-0 start.

Laurentian rowers had a successful weekend at the OUA championships in St. Catharines, with Hayley Chase finishing first in the women's single event and Charles Alexander topping the podium on the men's side.

Sticking with the water, the men's and women's swim teams both finished second at a meet held at the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool at Laurentian.

Finally, at the OUA cross country championships in Hamilton, the men's team finished in sixth place, with the women coming in at 12th.
