Last week's unseasonably warm weather, which caused major melting conditions, followed by a frigid dip back into the January deep freeze the next day, wrought havoc on winter trails at clubs around the city.

Walden Cross-Country Fitness Club

The cross-country trails in Naughton re-opened today, but there are some issues. The lower trails (one- and three-kilometre loops) have been groomed for skating and a very shallow track remains from before the thaw. You will have to walk from the chalet, across the stadium to the trails. Upper trails have been groomed for skating, but no track is set. Use caution on all trails as ice may be just under the snow.

The snowshoe trails in Naughton are re-opened. As for the fat bike trails, they've been groomed but aren't open to riding yet as they remain soft. The three-kilometre Mullock’s Lane loop is also closed to riding in preparation for this week’s O-Cup ski race.

The trails in Beaver Lake remain closed until further notice.

Onaping Falls Nordic Ski Club

The trails at Windy Lake are skiable, the club said today, but for now only the Park Trail has a set track. The club advises caution as the trail surface is firm, but not overall icy, except in some spots. The chalet is open, but during the week you must purchase your day passes for both skiing and snowshoeing at the Windy Lake Motel or the Windy Lake Provincial Park office.

Kivi Park

The cross-country ski trails are open, but there are a couple of bad spots so users are advised to use "extreme caution" when skiing. There are a coupole of icy sections and a some bare spots in a small open section near the chalet.

Laurentian Nordic Ski Club

The trails at the Laurentian Nordic Ski Club re-opened today as well. And, as with the other clubs in the city, users are advised there are some trouble spots, so it's best to ski with caution until trail conditions return to normal.
