The Sudbury Wolves have acquired overage left defenceman Doug Blaisdell from the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for a Kingston’s fourth round draft pick in 2020.

Blaisdell is in his fifth season in OHL and has played in 202 career regular season games accumulating six goals and adding 25 assists. The Dearborn, Michigan native is 6-3, 207 lbs and will join overage veteran Kyle Rhodes in helping to provide leadership to the team’s back end.

“Doug is a strong player, a solid defensive player with strong leadership skills and an abundance of experience playing with a solid organization,” said Rob Papineau, VP Hockey Operations and General Manager.

“He is a big defenceman who takes care of his own end first. It was important for us to find a leader and an experienced player early in the season so that the players can get familiar with each other.”

“I am excited to take on this new challenge and look forward to meeting everyone up in Sudbury,” said Blaisdell. “While I will obviously miss the friendships and people in the tri-cities, I think there is a lot of potential with the Wolves this season.”

Fans will have their first chance to see him in action Wednesday when the Wolves host the Sault Ste. Marie in game two of the Bell Challenge Cup. Wednesday’s game is sponsored by the United Way and game time is 7:05 p.m.
