The Sudbury Wolves have acquired overage goaltender Mario Culina, who was a Memorial Cup champion with the Windsor Spitfires a season ago.

Culina had been playing for Ryerson University in USports this season. He is a native of Sault Ste Marie, and brings some championship pedigree to the Wolves with a 2017 Memorial Cup win and Dudley Hewitt Cup victory in 2015.

The 20-year-old goaltender is expected to make his Wolves debut in his home town this Wednesday night when the Wolves visit the Soo Greyhounds.

“This season our team has been scoring goals and as an organization we feel that Mario can help us on the back end,” said Wolves General Manager Rob Papineau.

“The reality is we have had numerous untimely injuries this season and with missing the leadership and experience of Overage defenseman Kyle Rhodes, this offers our young team another experienced OHL veteran who has a track record of championship success.”

As a result of Ryan Valentini’s season-ending surgery, this created an overage roster spot and an opportunity to for the Wolves to add Culina to the roster.
