Wolves claim 12th win to tie franchise record

Kitchener Rangers defeated 5-2 during annual Teddy Bear Toss game

Guests of the annual Teddy Bear Toss game erupted in cheers last night, as the Wolves claimed their twelfth win to tie the franchise record for longest home-ice win streak.

Quinton Byfield, Cole Candella, David Levin, Jack Thompson and Liam Ross all had multi-point games to help the pack secure a 5-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers. Byfield, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Shane Bulitka earned first, second and third starts respectively, with final shots on goal 29-28 in favour of Kitchener.

Wolves' Cole Candella sent the teddy bears flying early in the opening frame at 3:58, claiming his fifth of the season with a beautiful shot fired in from the point. Wolves maintained this lead until the final minutes of the period, when Joseph Garreffa gave the Rangers their first goal of the night to tie the game 1-1.

Jonathan Yantsis earned Kitchener their first lead of the night, scoring a back-door goal on the power play after the Wolves took a two minute minor penalty. Sudbury picked up the pace, and by 14:31 Byfield had tied the game 2-2.

The pack laid it all on the line in the final frame, with Byfield scoring his second of the night alongside Levin and Bulitka who each contributed beautiful goals towards the final score of 5-2.

The Sudbury Wolves said in a press release they would like to thank the fans for collecting over 1500 bears in the Teddy Bear Toss for the TD Toybank and Salvation Army.

This Sunday, the Wolves head to Mississauga to face-off against the Steelheads at 2:05 p.m. The pack will take a break for the holidays after Sunday's game, returning to home-ice Dec. 28 to take on Hwy 17 rivals the North Bay Battalion at 7:05 p.m.
