Returning to the ice after a tough 4-1 loss to the Owen Sound Attack Saturday, the Sudbury Wolves faced off against the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre on Sunday.
The game got off to a rocky start, with the Storm grabbing an early lead, similar to Saturday's game when the Wolves fell behind in the first period. But this time, the Wolves fought back.
The Pack battled from behind, with Shane Bultika netting his seventh goal of the season six minutes into the second period. Quinton Byfield continued his torrid start to the season, putting home his 11th goal on the year to pull the Wolves ahead 2-1 with less than four minutes to play in the second.
Guelph's Eric Uba was quick to settle the score in the third period, delivering his third goal of the season at 2:03 with an assist from rookie Andrei Bakanov to draw the home side level at 2-2, but the Wolves had saved their best bite for last.
Nolan Hutcheson put the Wolves back on top for good three minutes later, with assists from Chase Stillman and Macauley Carson.
Hutcheson drove the final dagger into the Storm with about 1:30 to play in the third, scoring into the empty net and securing a 4-2 win for the Wolves.
Final shots on goal were 36-35 in favour of the Wolves. David Levin earned first star of the game honours for his two-assist performance. Nolan Hutcheson was named third star thanks to his two-goal third period, including the game winner.
With this win, the Sudbury Wolves jump to third overall and maintain their position as the top team in the Central Division and second in the Eastern Conference.
The Sudbury Wolves will be crossing the border to take on the Flint Firebirds Friday, at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Centre.
