The Sudbury Wolves had everything going right for them on Friday night when they defeated the Guelph Storm at home by a score of 6-2 in front of 4258 fans.
Nate Krawchuk was the starting goaltender for the Sudbury Wolves while Brayden Gillespie was in goal for the Guelph Storm.
Before the game the Sudbury Wolves honoured Guelph Head Coach, Cory Stillman with a video tribute. Stillman was the Head Coach for Sudbury from 2017 until 2020.
The Sudbury Wolves started off on the right foot with Kieron Walton’s 10th goal of the season at the 10:44 mark of the first period to give Sudbury a 1-0 lead.
With 4:13 left to play in the first, Luca Blonda scored his second goal of the season to increase the Wolves’ lead to 2-0 after the first 20 minutes of the hockey game.
The second period proved to be a busy one, starting with a power play for the Guelph Storm scored by Vilmer Alriksson, his sixth of the season at the 14:12 mark of the period to make the score 2-1 for Sudbury.
Guelph tied the game with 2:17 remaining in the middle frame thanks to Quinn Beauchesne’s first goal of the season to make the score 2-2.
With just over a minute left to play in the second period, Sudbury found themselves back in the lead with a goal from Sudbury native Alex Pharand, his seventh goal of the season, to give Sudbury a 3-2 lead with one period left to play in the hockey game.
The third period was all Sudbury, starting with Kieron Walton’s second goal of the game to put Sudbury ahead by two goals, leading 4-2.
With 2:57 remaining in the game and the Storm net empty, Quentin Musty scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Wolves an insurance goal and a 5-2 lead.
Alex Pharand scored his second goal of the game with just 28 seconds left to play to secure a 6-2 win for the Sudbury Wolves over the Guelph Storm.
With the win, the Sudbury Wolves now hold a record of 11 wins, seven regulation losses, and three overtime losses.
The Wolves hit the road for the rest of the weekend, starting with a game in St. Catharine’s on Saturday, November 23rd to take on the Niagara IceDogs with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. followed by a game in Oshawa on Sunday, November 24 against the Oshawa Generals with a scheduled start time of 6:05 p.m.
