The Sudbury Wolves handed out player awards this week to several members of the Pack who distinguished themselves on the ice this past season.

The Sudbury Wolves handed out awards this week to players who distinguished themselves on the ice during the 2022-2023 season.

The team presented their player year-end awards as its 2022-23 season came to an end. 

This year, the club presented the inaugural Jim Pappin Memorial Award, which is presented “to a player who demonstrates the same high level of intensity and compete on a daily basis throughout the entire season.”

The Jim Pappin Memorial Award honours and celebrates Pappins’ hockey legacy in Sudbury “by recognizing an active Sudbury Wolves player each year who shows the same intensity and level of compete day-in and day-out.”

Pappin, who hailed from Copper Cliff, was a Sudbury Wolves forward who went on to have a 14-year career in the NHL. 

He was a two-time champion with the Toronto Maple Leafs and won the Calder Cup five times. After retiring from the game, Pappin went on to have a 40-year career as the director of playing personnel with the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks. 

Throughout his career, Pappin was known for his intensity and determination. He passed away on June 29, 2022.

The inaugural Jim Pappin Memorial Award was presented to Kocha Delic.

“The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank our fans and sponsors for their tremendous support in making  the Wolves 50th anniversary a season to remember,” the team said in a news release.

  • Bill Plaunt Top Scorer – David Goyette 
  • Most Goals – David Goyette 
  • Pete Shields Most Assists – Quentin Musty 
  • Community Service Award - Alex Pharand 
  • Jim Pappin Memorial Award - Kocha Delic
