The Sudbury Wolves were back in action on Saturday night to notch a victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds during an away game.
The victory comes less than 24 hours after falling to the Barrie Colts on their home turf.
Finn Marshall made his first career Ontario Hockey League start in goal for Sudbury, while the Greyhounds went with returning veteran Charlie Schenkel as netminder.
It took less than five minutes for the first goal of the game to be scored, as the Greyhounds got off to an early 1-0 lead thanks to Justin Cloutier hitting the net in his first of the season, 4:46 into the opening period.
Despite several chances for both teams, the next goal wasn’t scored until there was only 3:30 remaining in the first, when Lucas Di Giantommaso landed his first goal of the season for the Wolves to tie the game 1-1.
With 1:41 left in the first period, Sudbury took a 2-1 lead with a goal from Nick DeAngelis, his first of the season, and the first period ended with the Wolves leading the Hounds by a score of 2-1.
Cloutier for the Soo would score his second of the game, and of the season, 6:23 into the middle frame to tie the game 2-2.
Just over two minutes later Erik Muxlow gave the Greyhounds a 3-2 lead with one period remaining in the game.
The third period was dominated by Sudbury, starting with a goal from Nick DeAngelis, his second of the game and of the season, to tie the game 3-3 at 10:57 into the third period.
At the 12:06 marker of the period, Kieron Walton scored his first goal of the season to put the Wolves on top by a score of 4-3.
Chase Coughlan continued his hot streak by scoring his second goal of the season with 59 seconds to go in the game on an empty net, giving the Wolves a 5-3 lead.
With 21 seconds to go, the Wolves would score one more goal thanks to Blake Clayton’s first of the season, sealing a 6-3 road victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The win marks the first victory for Sudbury Wolves Head Coach Scott Barney and Wolves goaltender Finn Marshall.
With the win, the Sudbury Wolves now hold a record of one win and one loss on the season.
Sudbury is now off until Oct. 4, when they will be back at the Sudbury Community Arena to take on the Peterborough Petes with a scheduled start time of 7:05 p.m.
