The Sudbury Wolves have selected Blake Murray of the Whitby Wildcats seventh overall.

Murray is 6-foot-2 tall and weights 177 lbs and celebrates his 16th birthday on July 5.

The Wolves are excited to see the Uxbridge, Ont., native arrive in Greater Sudbury.

“I am very excited and honoured to join the Sudbury Wolves organization and looking to meeting the guys on the team and the players selected today,” said Murray. “Fans can expect from my game a hardworking power forward that plays a full 200-foot game and a natural ability to score.”

Murray is a big centre that has the ability to take the game over at will, said a news release.

“He has an explosive first three strides and carries his powerful stride everywhere on the ice. He can beat defenders wide with speed and take the puck to the net with confidence and authority. Blake has a leadership quality that makes the players around him better, making him and his linemates a constant threat on the ice in all situations.

“Blake uses his shot extremely well and from all angles, making him a danger in the offensive zone at all times. Blake has the potential to be an impact player at the next level, and will learn quickly how to compete in the OHL this fall.”

"Blake is a player that can bring a unique complement to the team immediately,” said GM Barclay Branch. “He has the ability to step in and make a good contribution in his first season and learn from some great veteran players that built up some valuable post-season experience this past month.”
