The Sudbury Wolves have signed 16-year-old goaltender Michael Muzyka. The big 6-2, 180-pound goaltender was the only goalie drafted by the Wolves in the 2012 OHL Draft — selected 116th overall, in the sixth round.

Muzyka is playing for the Sudbury Nickel Barons Jr. A team this season and is fresh off a 34-save performance and a 4-3 overtime victory over the North Bay Trappers on Wednesday night where the Sudbury native improved his win-loss record to 5-4.

Muzyka currently has the fifth best goals against average in the NOJHL Jr. A league at 3.53. His save percentage is a very respectable .890.

Muzyka  received his first taste of OHL action last Sunday in Brampton as he served as a back-up to starter Taylor Dupuis.

"We are pleased to have Michael officially join our organization by signing an OHL contract,” said Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith. “Michael has shown that he is dedicated to be the best goalie he can be. He works extremely hard on and off the ice and has the determination, size and skills that we are looking for from a young goaltender.

"Our goaltending coach Scott Murray has been working diligently with Michael for some time now and we look forward to seeing Michael develop into a starting goalie for us in the future.”
