Quentin Musty and the boys were firing on all cylinders on Friday night as they took on the top team in the Ontario Hockey League at home and skated away with a very lopsided 9-3 victory against the Windsor Spitfires in front of 4,658 fans.
With 7:36 remaining in the opening period, the Sudbury Wolves got on the scoreboard with Nathan Villeneuve’s seventh goal of the season to grab a 1-0 lead.
Just over three minutes later, Quentin Musty scored his third goal in seven games this season to increase the Wolves’ lead to 2-0 after the first 20 minutes of play.
Just over one minute into the second period, before the ice even had time to dry and while on the power play, Sudbury captain Donovan McCoy scored his first goal of the season to open up a 3-0 lead for the Sudbury Wolves.
4:23 into the middle frame Jean-Christoph Lemieux got the Spitfires on the board with his fourth goal of the season making the score 3-1 for the Wolves.
Just 30 seconds later, Kocha Delic scored his third goal of the season to restore the Wolves’ three-goal lead, making the score 4-1 for Sudbury.
Under a minute later, Kieron Walton, who was playing against his brother Connor, scored his ninth goal of the season making the score 5-1 for the Wolves.
With 11:16 remaining in the second period, Sudbury native Alex Pharand scored his fifth goal of the season to expand Sudbury’s already wide lead to 6-1.
With 9:25 left to play in the middle frame, Cole Davis scored his sixth goal of the season, an unassisted goal, making the score 6-2 for Sudbury.
The Wolves kept lighting the goal lamp with Lucas Di Giantommaso’s sixth goal of the season to give the Wolves a 7-2 lead with one period remaining in the hockey game.
At the six-and-a-half minute mark of the final period, Ilya Protas scored his 12th goal of the season for the Spitfires, making the score 7-3 for the Wolves.
Pharand scored his second goal of the game just over eight and a half minutes into the third period to give Sudbury a lead by a score of 8-3.
Quentin Musty notched his sixth point of the night (two goals and four assists) to seal a 9-3 Wolves win at the 11:08 mark of the final period.
Musty’s two goals and four assists earned him First Star honours on the night.
With the victory, the Sudbury Wolves now have 10 wins, seven regulation losses and two overtime losses on the season.
The Sudbury Wolves take the road to North Bay to face their arch rivals, the North Bay Battalion, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17.
