Fans in attendance in Owen Sound were treated to a highly entertaining goaltenders’ duel on Sunday night when the Sudbury Wolves were visiting the Owen Sound Attack.
Nate Krawchuk got the start in net for Sudbury while Carter George got the start between the pipes for Owen Sound.
Sudbury carried the play throughout the opening period, outshooting the Attack 23-11, but George turned every Wolves shooter away. That is until the scoreless tie was broken when Ondrej Molnar scored his third goal of the season to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead heading into the dressing room for the first intermission.
With 9:31 remaining in the second period, the Sudbury Wolves extended their lead to 2-0 thanks to Nathan Villeneuve’s sixth goal of the season.
After the first 40 minutes of play and with both goalies standing on their heads, the Sudbury Wolves held a 2-0 lead.
At the 2:36 mark of the third, the Attack were finally able to solve Krawchuk, with Max Bleicher’s first goal of the season, cutting Sudbury’s lead in half to 2-1.
With 1:11 remaining in the hockey game and with Owen Sound’s net empty for an extra skater, Rowan Henderson scored his first career Ontario Hockey League goal to seal a 3-1 road win for the Sudbury Wolves over the Owen Sound Attack.
With the win, the Sudbury Wolves hold a record of nine wins, seven losses, and two overtime losses on the season.
The Sudbury Wolves have four days off before returning home to take on the Windsor Spitfires on Nov. 15, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
